AROUND HONGO & BEYOND
A city worth exploring.
Hongo is in central Tokyo, with neighbourhoods rich in history and culture around it. Whether you have a short break or an extra day, there is room to follow your own interests.
01
Ueno
Museums & park time
Ueno combines major museums with a spacious park. Explore art or natural history, then continue towards the lively shopping streets of Ameyoko.
02
Yanaka & Nezu
A slower walk through the neighbourhood
Temples, small shops, galleries and cafes give these neighbourhoods a different pace. Their backstreets make a natural companion to a stay around Hongo.
03
Jimbocho
An afternoon among bookshops
Browse bookshops and pause at a cafe. A chance encounter with a book outside your own field can be a rewarding part of a research trip.
04
Asakusa & the Sumida River
Tokyo from the riverside
Combine the streets of Asakusa with open views along the Sumida River. Historic streets and the Skytree skyline offer another side of the city.
YOUR TIME IN TOKYO
Visiting in November
The meeting takes place in late November. Bring a layer for time outdoors in the morning or evening, and check current opening days and seasonal information when planning your visit.
